very late, but my review on the new album. hahah im bored, and i'd work on my magazine article translations, but my mom's here, and i think i'm supposed to be doing homework...hehe this kinda looks like i'm typing up an essay =) oh, and I'm really sorry if the following review offends you. and don't read it if you just want to know how the songs were...if you want to do that, just go to the link at the bottom of this page, and jump to the individual song review page.

Alot of *long-time GLAY fans* seem to not like this album. Most of them keep saying how it's not worth the money, they don't like the new music style, they don't like how TERU sings now...blahblahblah. I can't say I'm a *long-time fan*, but I'm not a fan that just started to like GLAY a year ago, and I think I've been devoted for long enough. I personally like this album. I still don't think it compares to BELOVED, my absolute favorite album, but it comes pretty close actually. I atleast like it better than their previous album "pure soul" (and when I first heard that, I liked it. ofcourse not all the songs...but I LOVED pure soul, May Fair, and the single songs), and it's certainly an improvement over their debut album SPEED POP, or the one before: haito diamond(i don't like this one very much...it sounds very...unprofessional. ofcourse...it was before their official debut though)
Yes, the lyrics are darker, the songs are a little depressing, but if you read TAKURO's explanations about them, you start to understand why. They're his absolute honest feelings, and if you have to complain about them, then you can just stop being a fan, and just listen to their old songs. Those are TAKURO's words actually. He says that he knows some people won't like his new style, and that he knows he might lose some fans. The lyrics are what he thinks right now, and the music also reflects his feelings. Whether the fans like it or not, he can't lie and write happy beautiful love songs like he used to, because they would be...lies. GLAY is a band that doesn't make music in order to please their fans; they make music to show what they think, and they only do music they like. Pleasing the fans is something they'd like to do, but it's extra. I think the new album HEAVY GAUGE is good. Maybe the music doesn't *soothe your heart* like it used to, and doesn't make you happy. It doesn't matter, because whether you like it or not, this is GLAY. I respect GLAY for not caring what people think, and being unafraid to reveal their honest feelings.

A reccomendation though: If you just started to listen to GLAY, and was thinking about buying your first GLAY album, don't get this one just because it's the newest. If I were you, I would buy BELOVED or REVIEW...those are better to start with.

and...another little message: if you heard the album, and you didn't like it, I noticed something interesting. More people who are fluent in Japanese like the album than people who aren't. GLAY songs aren't just the music. Please take the time to read the lyrics...even if you don't like the music part, sometimes, the lyrics can be really touching. Check my translation section if you can't read Japanese, or even if you can, take time to think about what they lyrics really mean. It might be hard if you weren't born in Japan to really understand, but try-and you might actually start liking the song. haha...i sound like a lit teacher...*think about what the author was trying to get across* =)
